Frequently Asked Questions

I am arriving by cruise ship.  Is a shuttle or taxi required to get to the start of the tour? 
We pick up our guests right from the cruise terminal. Our speedboats depart from the small ferry dock, just a short walk from your ship.  Since we are so close to your ship, no taxi or shuttle is required to get to the start of your tour.  For information where to find us at the terminals, click here,

Do you offer hotel pick up?
Yes, we will pick you up from your hotel. Extra transportation fees will apply.  Click here for your add on pick up and return rate.

Have you ever missed getting your guests back to the ship on time?
No, never!  It is our top priority to get everyone back to the ship 60-90 minutes prior to departure.  

What time do your tours begin?
For cruise ship passengers, our excursions depart half an hour after your ship docks with a typical start time of 8:30.  If your ship arrives later, your tour will depart half an hour after your ship docks.  ie:  If your ship arrives at 9:00, your tour will depart at 9:30; if your ship arrives at 10:00, your tour will depart at 10:30.  Please note ships arriving at 7:00 or 7:30 will have a tour departure time of either 8:00 or 8:30.  

What happens if my ship arrives late?
No Problem!  Spencer Ambrose Tours will be waiting for you at the appointed location.  The tour will depart half an hour from the time your ship disembarks. However, please be aware that a ship delay may limit your number of stops, what sites are seen and how much time is available at each site.

What happens if I show up late for my tour?
Unfortunately, you will miss the tour.  In fairness to other guests, all tours depart promptly at the specified time.

Do you require a deposit?
Yes, a $10.00 deposit/person paid through PayPal is required to reserve your space on one of my tours.

I would like to pay with my credit card but do not see a space for that on PayPal.
I am sorry but for security reasons, PayPal will only accept payments through a PayPal account. 

Will I get my deposit back if I need to cancel my tour?
Your deposit will be refunded if you cancel up to 48 hours prior to your scheduled tour date.  Due to the number of seats that need to be held for larger parties, we are unable to offer refunds for groups of 10 or more.

Is my deposit refunded if my ship does not arrive in port?
Yes, your deposit is fully refunded if your ship does not arrive in port.

Do you accept credit cards, diner cards or traveller's checks (cheques) for payment?
Unfortunately, I cannot accept credit cards, diner cards or traveller's checks/cheques.  To reserve your space, a deposit is required through PayPal with the remaining balance of your tour to be paid in US cash on the day of the tour.

How much time is spent at the sites on Spencer’s Land, Sea & Beach Adventure?
For ships in port  9 or more hours (ie: 7:00-6:00, 7:00-7:00, 8:00-5:00, 8:00-6:00 or 9:00-6:00), we typically spend 30-45 minutes at Sulphur Springs (guided volcano tour or mud baths), 25-30 minutes at Toraille Waterfall, 15 minutes at the banana plantation and 2 hours at Jalousie/Sugar Beach.  For ships in port 8 hours or less, (ie:  8:00-4:00; 8:00-4:30 ), expect to spend less time at the beach and/or sites.  

Am I guaranteed a complimentary lounge chair at Jalousie (Sugar) Beach?
No.  All lounge chairs at Jalousie Beach are controlled and operated by the Sugar Beach Resort.  As a courtesy to non-resort visitors, the Sugar Beach Resort provides a very limited number of complimentary lounge chairs on the snorkelling side of the beach. These chairs are only available on a first-come, first-served basis. The resort prohibits tour operators from reserving chairs or bringing additional chairs onto the beach for their guests. For these reasons Spencer Ambrose Tours cannot guarantee their guests will receive a chair once at Jalousie Beach. For those who do not get a chair, please note that all beaches in St. Lucia are public and you are welcomed to place your towel down anywhere along the beach or you may rent a luxurious padded lounge chair from the resort for $50/chair.

How many people tour in a group?
A group size can range from 8-14 people.  For your traveling comfort, I strive to never fill my vehicles to their full passenger capacity.

Are your boats equipped with life jackets?
Yes, all my boats are equipped with adult and child size life jackets.

How many people can fit in your boats?
Including captain and crew, the Mé Sea Dyé accommodates 16, the Meré Sea Dieu II, accommodates up to 19 and my newest boat the Meré Sea Dieu III can accommodate 23.  Maximum boat capacity is in adherence to the St. Lucian Port authority guidelines and I will not exceed the maximum occupancy of passengers allowed for my size boats.

Can you accommodate large groups?
Yes, I can make special arrangements to accommodate large groups. Contact me  for more information.

Can I request a specific guide or boat for my tour?
Although I will try to honor your request, I cannot guarantee which guide or boat will be assigned to your tour.

Are there restrooms and a place to change at Jalousie/Sugar Beach?
Yes, restroom and change facilities are available free of charge at Jalousie Beach.

Do you offer vegetarian meals?
If you are a vegetarian, please let us know.  Although we do not offer special vegetarian meals, we can offer you codfish or tuna in place of chicken.  If you are not a fan of fish, there are enough other food options available which most vegetarians find satisfactory.

Is motion sickness a concern on the winding roads in St. Lucia?
Our travel to Soufriere by speedboat avoids the drive on the winding West Coast road.  However, if travelling by land, some guests have experienced minor symptoms of motion sickness.  If you are prone to motion sickness, it may be beneficial to take precautionary measures prior to the tour.  Sitting at the front of the van may also help to reduce symptoms of motion sickness.

Are there restroom breaks on the tour?
Yes.  There are numerous opportunities to stop at restroom locations.

Are your vehicles air conditioned?
Yes, for your comfort all my vehicles are air-conditioned.

Is it safe to leave personal items in the van?
Yes, for your security the van is kept locked at all times.

Is there any time for shopping at the end of the tour?
Our scheduled tours return to the Castries terminal 60-90 minutes prior to ships departure which allows time for shopping at the.duty free complex located at the pier.  Due to time constraints, guests are not dropped off in Castries or the Castries Market for shopping.  

I would like to help St. Lucian school children in low-income districts.

If you would like to help St. Lucian school children, I will gratefully accept any gifts of school supplies at the beginning of your tour.  Most needed items include exercise notebooks, coloring books, pens and pencils, erasers, markers, colored pencils, crayons, lined paper, binders, backpacks and new or used fiction novels suitable for 12-14 year olds (ie:  Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Lizzie McGuire, Diary of a Wimpy Kid...).  I will personally collect and distribute your gifts to those schools most in need.
