West Coast Island Delight

Description

A Journey Through the Heart of St. Lucia:
Lush Tropical Beauty & West Coast Wonders

Your land adventure begins in Castries, the island’s vibrant capital, where we’ll journey through a rich tapestry of colonial architecture and historic monuments. Relax in air-conditioned comfort as we visit Derek Walcott Square, to marvel at the ancient Samaan tree; known locally as the "Massav,” this 400-year-old giant is a living landmark of St. Lucian history. Nearby, you’ll discover the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. a masterpiece originally founded in 1767 that stands as the largest and oldest cathedral in the Caribbean.

From Castries, we make the exhilarating ascent up to the Morne Fortune Overlook.  From this peak, take in sweeping views of Castries, the north side of the island, Vigie, the cruise ships and Castries Harbor.  You will also see one of our island’s prime specimens of Victorian architecture, which today is the Governor-General Residence.

As we journey south, we stop at the expansive Roseau Banana Plantation to explore the heart of the island's agriculture. Experience a true taste of St. Lucia as you see, smell, and sample our world-famous "green gold" while learning the traditional secrets behind the cultivation of our most cherished export. Continuing the journey, we’ll traverse lush tropical valleys and navigate around towering mountains draped in emerald forests.  As we hug the coastline, you’ll pass the charming fishing villages of Anse La Raye and Canaries, where brightly coloured boats line the shore in picturesque, hillside-cradled coves. These vibrant communities remain the heart of St. Lucian maritime tradition, with local fishermen practicing age-old techniques passed down through generations.

As we wind along the scenic coastline toward Soufriere, prepare for the ultimate "postcard" moment. From our breathtaking vantage point at the town's famous overlook, you’ll witness St. Lucia’s crowning jewels: the Piton Mountains. These iconic twin peaks, a prestigious UNESCO World Heritage Site, tower 2,600 feet above the sapphire Caribbean Sea. It is a world-class silhouette that simply must be seen to be believed—be sure to have your camera ready for the island’s most legendary photo op.

As you near Sulphur Springs, the distinctive, earthy scent of the vents will signal your arrival at this rare geological marvel. Once inside the park, the choice of adventure is yours: indulge in the famous volcanic mud baths (included in the tour rate) or embark on a guided walking tour through the heart of the collapsed crater (additional fee applies). Please select your preferred experience during the booking process.

  • Option 1:  Mud Baths (Included in tour price)
Have fun slathering on warm, mineral-rich volcanic mud before rinsing off in the soothing heat of the natural sulfur pools at the world-renowed Sulphur Springs. These dark, therapeutic waters are famed for their healing properties, leaving your skin refreshed and your spirit completely rejuvenated. It’s an invigorating experience that is as beneficial as it is unforgettable.

Traveller's Note:  Mineral-rich mud can cause staining to clothing.  Wearing dark-coloured swimwear is highly recommended.
  • Option 2:  Guided Volcano Tour ($12 USD/person)
Start your visit at the Interpretive Centre with an engaging 5-minute video presentation on the geology and history of the world’s only drive-in volcano. Following the video, a local expert will lead you along maintained trails to the main viewing platforms. From this safe vantage point, you’ll get a firsthand look at active sulfur vents, bubbling mud pools, and steaming geysers while learning about the island’s unique volcanic history.

Please note:  To comply with local regulations, these walking tours are conducted exclusively by site-authorized guides from the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation.  To ensure you receive the full experience, please locate your volcano guide immediately after the video presentation.

Next, immerse yourself in the serenity of Toraille Waterfall and Gardens.  Nestled within a canopy of exotic greenery, this breathtaking 50-foot cascade tumbles into a crystal-clear plunge pool. Step into the refreshing waters and let the cool, rhythmic flow provide a revitalizing natural back and shoulder massage—the ultimate tropical cool-down.

Once refreshed, transition from the forest to the coast as you trade the land for the sea. A high-speed speedboat ride whisks you away to the world-famous Sugar Beach, located directly between St. Lucia’s majestic twin peaks.  Here, you can experience the island's best snorkeling right off the shore, then retreat to the sugar-white sand to enjoy a refreshing drink and a traditional Creole chicken picnic lunch. With the awe-inspiring Pitons as your dramatic backdrop, you’ll capture unforgettable memories in this true island paradise.

All this and more awaits you on this premier island expedition along St. Lucia’s breathtaking west coast. Are you ready to embark on an adventure that will dazzle your senses, enrich your mind, and leave you with once-in-a-lifetime Caribbean memories? Let us show you the very best of St. Lucia!

"Hands Down the Best Excursion We Have Ever Done—Do Not Miss This!"

"We were greeted right off the boat by Spencer and our engaging, knowledgeable guide. We traveled in a nice vehicle to a banana plantation, the Volcano, and a beautiful 50ft waterfall where we waded in the pool.

Then, we took a wonderful speedboat ride to Jalousie/Sugar Beach. Don't waste your time snorkeling anywhere else—it was fantastic! We had a lunch on the beach that was provided for us and it was a sampling of local favorites which included BBQ chicken and some assorted sides.

...We have done many excursions and adventures on the islands when we cruise and this one was HANDS DOWN the best we have ever done. If you are fortunate enough to be in St. Lucia, DO NOT MISS SPENCER AMBROSE TOURS!"

"Gracious Host & Marvelous Snorkeling—So Glad We Booked This!"

"Small hosted our group of 7 and we really enjoyed him and all he shared with us about the island. The mud baths were fun and a real experience and we loved rinsing off in the waterfall. The bar b q was wonderful. Snorkeling at Sugar Beach was marvelous. The water was beautiful and I saw all sorts of colorful fish. Small took us back to our ship (Windstar) which was quite a distance away from the main port and was such a gracious host.  "Friendly, Knowledgeable and Professional—An Unforgettable Day!"

From the time we met up with Spencer until the time we were brought back to the ship our experience could not have been better. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. We ended at a wonderful beach, with the most delicious lunch. ... I want to thank the Spencer Ambrose group for an unforgettable day.
